The manufacturing of the rigging ...
... advances with great strides!
December marks the end of the fabrication of the standing rigging. Indeed, 90% of the rigging is done, which is just under 8km from ropes.
Since October, the riggers are progressing very quickly as they have already completed the assembly of all the shrouds of the three masts on three floors (in red on the diagram).
All stays (thick ropes used to support the masts) will also be made in late 2011 (in turquoise blue on the diagram).
The riggers surround a pulley with a big rope, this is called "estropage". Here in this case, it is the estropage of a "dead block" or "heart" (a pulley without sheave) of the mainstay.
Riggers also worked on the "skirt" of the rudder, a piece of leather around the rudder to prevent the infiltration of water into the hold, as well as other elements of the rudder chain.
This rudder chain consists of several "security" ropes that hold the rudder if it ever came out of its hinges.
