The flanges for the engine
Preparation of the hull for the installation of the engines
In preparation of the installation of the engines, two blocks in glulam have been placed on either side of the ship's hull: one on the inside and one on the outside.
These endplates will hold the metal flanges of the engines.
The installation is performed in two steps: First the tracing and then the piercing. On either side of the hull, a hole with a diameter of 46 cm has been made.
Then the metal flanges were installed.
As the engines will be inside the hull, this opening will allow passage of the axle on which the propellers will be fixed. The axle allows the propellers to have a 360° turning circle. Adaptations like this are necessary to give the frigate more maneuverability in ports and make compliant with the modern requirements for seafaring.
